SMILE Laser for Nearsightedness and Astigmatism
Why is it called SMILE?
ZEISS SMILE is an advanced, minimally invasive laser procedure used to treat near-sightedness and astigmatism. The procedure is precise, and is an excellent option for people with an active lifestyle. SMILE is an acronym that stands for “Small Incision Lenticule Extraction.”
Minimally Invasive • Generally Fast Healing
Simply put, a laser is used to create a thin, contact lens-shaped layer just beneath the surface of the eye and then a small opening, through which the layer is removed.
SMILE requires only a small opening created by the laser to reshape the eye. Because SMILE does not involve removing the surface of the cornea or creating a flap, discomfort and dry eye symptoms may be reduced compared with LASIK and PRK.
With ZEISS SMILE, full visual recovery typically occurs within just a few days following your procedure.
